December 1997 - Communications

December's topic is Communications, and the scouts will have opportunities to learn about many facets of communications in today's world.

December 1
The boys had the opportunity to learn about all about the internet, and learned how to manage the Troop 21 webpage. Topics included:

The boys had the opporuntity to go online during the meeting, surf around the internet, and see just what goes on in the background in order to make internet services available. In addition to finding sites dedicated to knots and morse code, they tied into a website in Donnegal, Ireland to learn about the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland.

Assistant Scoutmaster Ray Spreier takes the boys on a tour of the internet.
Visiting webelos from Pack 20 worked with Scoutmaster Terry Bushnell and Assistant Scoutmaster Stu Laird to try their hand at dutch oven cooking. Nothing like a hot peach cobbler on a cold December night. Mmm.....

December 8
Assistant Scoutmaster Chuck Colclough will sponsor a vist to Saint Charles Medical Center, where the scouts will learn about two way communications in medicine - from rural medicine and video applications, to emergency communications, to medical telemetry and remote patient monitoring.

December 15
Signalling! Hey, all you former scouts - do you remember your First Class signalling requirements? The boys will get to learn about morse code and semaphore.

And don't forget the Troop 21 Christmas social!
