1999 Spring Camporee

The 1999 Fremont District Spring Camporee was held at Haystack Reservoir on the Ochoco National Grasslands. The theme for this year's Camporee was the Outdoor Code.

This year the Camporee was sponsored jointly by Troop 21 of Bend and Troop 58 of Madras. Thanks to Jim Barker and Tom Brown for all of their hard work.

Troop 21, having scouted out the area ahead of time, selected a beautiful campsite in the treeline just off the shore of Haystack Reservoir.

Life Scout / New Scout Instructor Eric Fredstrom assists the Flaming Arrow patrol in the setup of their campbox and cook gear.
They boys learned that one has to be very careful where they walk out in the Grasslands. This nest with three eggs was discovered near the waterfront, less than three feet from the back of where a truck had parked in the dark the night before.
Troop 21 staked out the area to protect the nest during the event.
