Troop 21 arrives in force at Stewart Park near
Medford. |
Troop 21 sets up camp. |
Although there was no formal campsite inspection or
award, Troop 21 was paid a great compliment in that other
troops were told by the Camporall staff to come look at
the Troop 21 site as the Model Campsite example. |
The campsite pioneering projects gave the site that
extra touch. Scouts used shear (round) lashings and
splices to erect a flagpole. |
Square lashings were used to create the frame for the
Troop banner. |
A Japanese Speed Lashing was used to make the tripod
for the weather rock (just behind the tent). |
Opening Ceremonies. |
Plenty of room for the events. |
The hot isotope competion, in which the scouts must
use teamwork to snare a can full of water, transport it a
short distance, and use the water to fill another can -
all without ever touching the can or spilling the
contents. |
The infamous "spin around with your forehead on
the baseball bat and try to run without falling down or
losing your lunch" trick. |
Resting before one of the events. |
Knot tying competition. |
Aaron wonders "Is he pulling my leg? Is there
such a knot as a left handed Ubangi sheep hitch?" |
The wicked A frame competition. Patrols had to know
their lashings and work together as a team. |
The Apache water run contest. |
Adam sez "Ve are back from our conquest!" |
Troop 21 never starves. We are well known for eating
plenty and eating well on our outings. Bacon wrapped
filet mignon, anyone? |
Meals were judged in a separate competition. Firing
up the coals for the dutch ovens. |
Evening ceremonies and tapout for Order of the Arrow. |
Troop 21 was recognized with the Grand Prize for the
cooking competition - a complete set of cast iron
cookware with covers and carrying crate. Not too darn
bad, guys. |
Load 'em up and head home, guys. A job well done. |
