2000 Fall Camporee
and Webelos Woods

The Fall Camporee was held at the Ogden Group Camp, near LaPine, on the road to the Newberry Crater area. Troop 21 brought 25 scouts and 7 adults to the event. We also were happy to sponsor visitors from Packs 69, 31, and 24. The troop arrived Friday at dusk in the rain, and the boys proceeded to setup camp. The next morning, we discovered that despite the weather, the boys had done a fine job, and all that was needed were a few cosmetic adjustments. At the troop competitions, Troop 21 came out in force, collecting more than 12 ribbons. Each of the three patrols (Pink Fluffy Bunnies -yes, it's true; the Screaming Eagles, and the Knights of the Picnic Table) all took home at least three ribbons each.

It's cold. It's raining. Everyone hurries to put up the "Taj Mahal" shelter so that we can get some Hot Chocolate going on the stove.

The next morning saw better weather and a surprise in that the camp was setup in a very organized fashion despite the rain and cold.

The guys dig into the task of putting the 'final touches' on the campsite. The scouts lashed together a flagpole, a weather station, and a frame for the troop banner, and also put together a safe axe yard.

The guys muster prior to going down to the meadow for opening ceremonies.

All the troops fall in for opening ceremonies..

The camp is done with flagpole, weather station, and banner.

And the events begin. A group of visiting Webelos learns how to navigate the compass course.

The Screaming Eagles get ready for the log pull competition.

The cooking and dining area.

Even the adult leaders had to compete in the compass course.

The infamous Pain on the Prairie Diner is open for business. Custer's Last Stand breakfast included the Infamous Pot of Death (IPOD). A delightful concoction of hot italian sausage, jalapeno peppers, bell peppers, habanero peppers, cayenne pepper, onions, potatoes, and garlic. Scramble in about two dozen eggs, and top with melted jalapeno jack cheese. Let simmer in a dutch oven until it's just ready to explode. Then add hot sauce to suit your own compression ratio.

Of course, we had 'normal' food to eat also. Beef kabobs and steamed vegetables helped take the chill off.
