La Pine State Park |
| Service Project |
In preparation for the Spring Advancement Camporee, the troops
of the District got together and pitched in on a one day service
project to clean up the Day Use area and prepare it not only for
our use during the Camporee, but for public use throughout the
2001 season. Under the guidance of OPRD Ranger Ross Kihs, the
crews cleaned brush, raked pine needles, burned slash, moved
tables into picnic sites and secured them, and cleaned up the
parking area. Truckload after truckload of debris was hauled off.
The OPRD rangers stated that our efforts saved them over one
month of labor. Thanks again to the 37 people who turned out from
Troop 21, Troop 18, and the District Committee.

Nothing like a fire to attract the boys. Curtis,
Brandon, and Kevin feed the slash fire. |

The guys from Troop 27 Redmond hauling needles out to
the parking lot. The downed pine needles make for a
tremendous fire hazard if left all over the ground. Each
site was cleared out 20-25 feet from the barbecues and
fire pits. |
 |
The moms pitched in a great deal. Jill and Debbie are
feeding another slash fire. |
 |
Jared and Travis paint the timbers that will later be
assembled to make the interpretive kiosk in the Day Use
Area. |
